The stronger your password, the more protected your computer will be from hackers and malicious software & 2FA.
Creating a really strong password, which is not either, something you know or can guess for example your dog’s name It is a good idea to mix things up so that you have lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols.
another useful tip is switching normal letters with numbers. An example is if you were going to put “house” as a password, you could do a capital H. But then the E at the end just have a three rather than an E. So, it’s actually easier for your brain to remember as well as making the password more complex.
Make sure you also have 2 factor authorisations. effectively it just means you type in the password, then it will either ping your mobile phone with a text message or maybe you’ll use a separate authenticator app or a phone call. this sort of the two types of ability to log in to make sure that if anyone hacks your password, they still can’t get in.
Don’t click a link if you’re not sure. Again, this could be made to look like legitimate and appear to be from a source that you do trust, but then there’s something nasty in the background.
If you do receive an email that you think might be true, but you’re not quite sure, manually log into the website instead of clicking the link through the email.
it’s so important if you’ve got all your data in one place and you end up losing it. An example could be you do not backup your phone or laptop and the device breaks! The data goes with it.
Most phone providers will have an option of a backup. Tt’s really important that you have that separate standalone backup as well as this.
Do you use your computer and get those annoying pop-ups that say “Microsoft wants to do an update” After consistently clicking no or do it next time / remind me later.
The reason they’re so important is because there’s a real cat and mouse game between, let’s say, Microsoft or Apple and the hackers. So, what they’ll do is they’ll effectively look for holes in the operating system and then try to get in.
Microsoft will see the breaches, They will then create a security patch and push this out as an update.
If you’re continually saying no or will do it next time, then it means that that gap is still there therefore you are putting yourself at risk!
It’s really important to have a paid antivirus software. The reason that you’ve got the free versions is they’re very stripped-down versions and won’t prevent as much.
Anti-virus software will stop viruses coming in, if it’s a paid one, it will hopefully be updated regularly.
Again, when new viruses come about, new types of viruses software get created to fight them. The updates will push through and will keep you constantly protected.
Any work data that you’ve got on your device is therefore always protected.
