The BT Switch off, the move to a 100% digital network, is getting closer but there are still some businesses yet to transition to a compatible phone system. There are many opportunities to embrace when making the switch, which we discuss here.

What is the PSTN switch off

The BT switch off is the end of PSTN and ISDN lines due in December 2025. These types of phone lines will no longer be available, and the network will not be supported going forward, so all phone services must transition to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), tech that allows calls to be made via the internet.

ADSL and FTTC are also being switched off which means businesses need to review their broadband services and transfer to full-fibre.

This will have a significant impact on many businesses’ communication as well as alarm systems that currently rely on PSTN.
