In this case, you may need to consider upgrading your wi-fi networks.
Forgetting your password or being locked out because you’ve input it incorrectly too many times is not uncommon. Check to see if you have a password reset feature, such as the one offered by Microsoft Windows; if it’s for a hardware device, you may need to go back to factory settings. Different devices and software have different retrieval options, but you can also use a password manager to retrieve all your passwords more easily, while keeping them secure.
Cyber-crime is a threat to all businesses and a lack of awareness of the risks puts your business at risk. As well as putting firewalls and anti-virus software in place, introduce IT policies and procedures and train employees in cyber-security so that they know what to report and who to report it to, so that swift action is taken to limit the impact of a hacker or phishing attack.
We’ve all experienced that initial panic when we realise we’ve accidentally deleted a file or folder. The first action is to check your computer’s recycling bin and right-click to restore any documents in there. If the lost item is in the cloud, you should have a back-up point from which it can be restored, and if a file is lost through an unexpected shutdown, check in case it’s been auto-recovered.
You may have too many applications running at once, so go to Task Manager and shut down anything not being used. Also, check that updates are being done regularly and that when they occur, they are compatible with existing hardware and software. It could also be that your computer is old and not able to cope with the demands being placed on it. In this case you may need to review your IT infrastructure and resources to see if you need to modernize them.
It may be that the file has been corrupted and you need help restoring it from a previous back-up, or your account permissions haven’t been set up correctly. This needs to be addressed by a system administrator.
When you are looking to integrate a new device, or even reconnect a device previously used, you may get the error message device “unrecognized”, or it may not show up at all. You can start by unplugging the device and plugging it in again or trying a different port. See if it connects on a different computer in case it’s not compatible with the old one.
Malicious email attachments can be an IT security threat, so it may be getting blocked as part of your IT security measures. You need to report it before trying to opening the attachment again. As attachments are a security risk it may be necessary to look for an alternative way to share files, such as Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, to prevent them being blocked.
