7 Top Tips When Adapting To Hybrid Working

1. Use private Wi-Fi

Public wireless networks can be useful when in a pinch but, as much as possible, should be avoided for work purposes. A lack of security measures could greatly increase your likelihood of being hacked

Realistically, it may be a better idea to use a wired network if security is a concern. However, some hybrid working employees may be required to travel as part of their role. In these instances, it may be better to provide your employees with a portable Wi-Fi dongle solely for work use.

As a business owner you may be thinking that a PC is the obvious choice for your next computer investment, but Apple’s iMac and MacBook Pro devices are becoming increasingly popular choices. We look at what makes each of these devices good for the workplace.

Quick navigation

What are the advantages of an Apple Mac device for business?

The popularity of Mac devices as the preferred work device is continuing to grow, according to a report in Computerworld, with a recent survey finding that 55% of businesses now allow employees to use Macs at work.

Whether you use an iMac or a MacBook Pro, some common qualities traverse the whole Apple range which makes their products attractive to business users:

  • User friendly:

In a business context many people are familiar with PC devices, but in our personal lives Apple products are rarely far away. This means we are already used to their operating systems on our iPads and iPhones and understand how they flow and connect to each other. Because of this, switching to an Apple device at work isn’t such a big leap.

Apple products are also very well designed, incredibly intuitive and user friendly. Even brand-new users of Apple devices can quickly become acquainted with their functions. Longer term, an easy-to-use system also helps increase productivity.

  • Macs are secure

PCs have been so dominant in the market that most malware and viruses have been targeted at them, with fewer viruses targeting Apple machines. This, in conjunction with the strong cyber defences available on the Mac OS, means users can be confident that they will be well protected. However, no one is 100% safe from cyber-crime.

  • Apple products work together:

Apple has been very smart, creating an ecosystem of products and an infrastructure that readily connect so that users can seamlessly switch between devices and pick up on one device where they left off on another. This makes it very convenient for business users who use a desktop computer in the office but travel with a laptop.

In recent years we have seen Apple and Microsoft products come together so that even when using an Apple product, you can still use products such as Microsoft 365 and Office apps. You aren’t forced to choose between the good-looking iMac and the Microsoft tools you enjoy.

  • Excellent build quality:

They may be expensive at the initial point of purchase, but Macs and Apple products are known for their good build quality and performance. This means they are reliable and last a long time, needing less TLC during their lifetime, so overall they don’t work out much more expensive.

  • Performance:

As you would expect, the Apple range of iMac products offers devices of varying specifications, but all are powerful and versatile and enable you to work effectively. Not being restricted in your work by the capability of your device is very important for user buy-in and with their high reputation for performance, businesses feel confident in buying the Apple brand.

Do I choose iMac or MacBook Pro?

The reasons why businesses choose an Apple device, as outlined above, are as true for an iMac as they are for a MacBook Pro. In addition, iMacs and MacBook Pros all come in a range of specifications and sizes so you can find the one that’s most suited to the task at hand.

When it comes to choosing an iMac or MacBook Pro, the first question you want to ask is, do you want a desktop computer or a laptop and what are the practical implications of choosing either?

There may once have been a time when, for performance, you would have chosen an iMac, but that isn’t necessarily the case now. You can pick a laptop for practical reasons, because you travel a lot, and still be happy with it as your desktop machine back in the office.

Choosing between an iMac and a MacBook Pro depends on whether you want a mobile device or not and whether there are particular technical specifications you’re looking for that can only be found in one of them.

Investing on your business IT is a big commitment. If you are torn between iMacs, MacBook Pros or even PCs for your business, Syn-Star’s IT consultancy services are here to help advise you. If you would like to arrange a demonstration or discuss your options further, then contact Syn-Star today.
