Cyber threats are evolving at a staggering pace. The European Union’s upcoming NIS 2 Directive aims to improve cyber security measures across all member states to proactively fight against hackers.
To strengthen Europe’s ability to combat current and future cyber threats, the NIS 2 Directive introduces new requirements such as enhanced risk management, incident reporting obligations and penalties for non-compliance.
The new directive updates the 2016 version in the effort of a more robust cyber security level across all EU member states.
It is estimated that around 100,000 companies need to comply with NIS 2 – this is a much larger number than the old NIS Directive required.
The new obligations are set to include new sectors and entities providing stricter legal measures to increase overall security:

The short answer is no. As the UK is no longer a member state of the European Union, the new requirements do not apply. However, NIS 2 covers organisations that provide services in any EU country, even if these companies are based outside of the European Union.
